Amazon deforestation, viewed by a Brazilian boy (FAQs) 1

I'm seeing there is a lot of misunderstanding about Amazon deforestation abroad, so here it comes some answers to the Frequent Asked Questions:

I-General
1) Is Amazon being devastated?
A: Yes

2) Who is devastating Amazon?
A: Uhh, lots of people, but mainly wood and mineral explorers and cattle/soybean farmers. Humble people and indians take a very little part of it.

3) But how can Brazilian government give permission to that kind of people to do this?
A: Who told you that? No, our government, in most of cases DOESN'T GIVE it. They either falsify permission or cut trees ilegally don't even act as legal.

4) And why don't Brazilian governemnt do something against this?
A: Who told you he doenst' do? Yes, he does. But let me explain you something: Brazil can be divided in 3 regions: the Civilized Region, from South Minas Gerais and "Mineiro Triangle" - that kind of horn in Minas Gerais State - until Rio Grande do Sul and Brasília capitol, responsable for the most part of our richness; the Half-Civilized Region, from state of Rio de Janeiro, Espírito Santo, the rest of Minas Gerais Northeast Region but Maranhão State, Goiás, and some parts of Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul close to São Paulo, Paraná and Goias and as far as possible to North Region, where it's still nice, but with some big problems; and the Hobbesian Region, which includes, guess where? The Amazon and Maranhão State.

5) Why do you say that about this region?
A: Let me give you an example: is Rio de Janeiro violent? Hell yeah. But in Rio they would never, NEVER arrest a female teenager in a cage with 30 MEN and leave her there for MORE THAN A MONTH!!! And even if I were wrong, the authorities would never, NEVER answer saying that "but she looked like an adult..."!!! This had happened in Pará last year. And I didn't tell you about children sacrifices for black magic...

7) What could I do about this?
The very first thing is NEVER talk about "Amazon is an World Heritage, so Brazil should have limited soberany on it" or "Amazon indians should have more authonomy. Everytime someone talked this (Like Al Gore, Francois Miterrand and Pascal Lamy), a farmer, a miner and a wood explorer says: "Do you see? these 'gringos' want to take Amazon from us, Brazilians!" and this ends decreasing Amazon. Yes, we are paranoic about foreigners taking Amazon from us and stolen its (our) wealth. And there are concret cases, for example ressearchers who studied Amazon herbs, made medicine from it and copyrighted the formula WITHOUT GIVE ANY PERCENTAGE FOR US. Other one: one Japanese company, Asahi Foods, copyrighted the name "Cupuacu", which is the name from a typical Amazon food. This only feed our paranoy.

II- Devastation for explore minerals

8) What is the issue here?
Two kinds. A- Humble (and not so humble) people who wants to harvest gold from rivers (so adding the polution by quicksilver and SOME mineral companies (not Vale, it doesn't do this kind of shit) who illegally cut Amazon trees to use it in ovens.

9) What could I do about it?
It's simple: go to your Government/Deputy/Representative and ask to boycott Brazilian iron without an enviroment international certification.

It'll go on in a next topic
